A Brief Introduction
My name is Ciara Sheridan and I am a recent graduate with an honours B.A. in Fashion Design at the Limerick School of Art and Design, an off campus department of Limerick Institute of Technology. Previous to this I have studied 2 years of Multimedia, Computing and Design in the IT department on main campus. Following that I received 11 distinctions in a Fetac level 5 portfolio course in Art & Design in Limerick Senior College of Further Education. My aim was to return to what I am most passionate about, which is Fashion.
In this course we explored all areas of design. From the initial concept and design process to the presentation of a final piece. Areas of study included research and development, drawing, pattern drafting, garment construction, professional practice, presentation techniques and critical and contextual studies. During the last 4 years some of the skills I have acquired are adobe illustrator, industrial machine knitting, hand knitting, industrial and domestic machine sewing and also how to use the over-locker. I have also participated in Market Research Projects in both Dublin and London.
Last year I completed a 5 month internship with Erdem in London where I got to participate in special projects such as hand embroidering a tutu which was then exhibited in Kensington Palace. My main duties were organising production packages, quality control on garments and fabrics, repairing and preparing garments for production and sewing in the sampling department. I am presently seeking another internship to further my knowledge and skills and work experience in the fashion industry.
Throughout my course I was encouraged to develop and perfect a personal touch in my work to give a unique edge to it. I love printing and painting my own fabric, using new and innovative patterns to find new shapes and create structured over sized garments which also have a graphic edge to them. My graduate collection called Insomnia was inspired by personal experience of sleepless nights due to an overload of creative ideas. The story was told through prints which I created, digitally printed and also layering technique which I devised to give the idea of the double vision and insanity which occurs due to lack of sleep.
Some of my inspirations are Erdem, Lanvin, Basso & Brooke and Cathy Pill to name but a few.
The aim of this website is to showcase my portfolio to date and I will be updating as the year progresses. Feel free to return and view my work as it develops.
